The enormity of Hurricane Milton has many people scared about climate change and its effects on our weather and quality of life, and ability to live at all.

If you're tired of complaining from the sidelines, the Lake County Conservation Council invites the public to Voices of Change: Embracing Environmental Advocacy.

The free workshop from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, will feature Beverly Ward, field secretary of Earth Care, who will summarize the county's environmental threats.

Ryan Smart, executive director for the Florida Springs Council, will share his expertise, and a panel of local government officials will provide advocacy tips. Attendees will be divided into small groups to create advocacy plans for various issues. A display of GIS maps will show the state of Lake County's natural resources.

The event will take place at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Lake County, 1235 Mount Homer Road, Eustis.

Seating is limited. To register, email Jane Hepting, president of the Lake County Conservation Council, at hepting.jane@gmail.com .
