On Thursday, Georgia Power announced it would recognize its more than 1,100 team members during Generation Appreciation Month.

With August being a month to celebrate power generation, Georgia Power will highlight career opportunities that allow its team members to keep power flowing from the grid to air conditioners on hot summer days, and to heaters during cold winter nights. Throughout the month, the company said it was inviting customers and potential employees to explore the diverse nature of its generation team’s work and the wide variety of career opportunities available for skilled workers.

“In life, as well as with Georgia Power’s power generation facilities, there is no one-size-fits-all option,” Rick Anderson, senior vice president and senior production officer for Georgia Power, said. “From the existing facilities that have powered Georgia for decades, to newer sources of generation such as renewable energy, cleaner natural gas and battery storage, Georgia Power’s diverse generation mix continues to evolve to meet the needs of a growing Georgia. To keep the energy flowing, we need a workforce that is just as advanced and diverse.”

The company said careers in power generation are available in operations, maintenance, electrical, instrumentation, engineering and more. Last year, the company said, it hired more than 80 people across generation facilities and expects to continue that level of hiring in the coming years thanks to strong training programs in operations, as well as apprenticeships in mechanical and electrical jobs which develop experienced journeymen who work to keep energy flowing to the grid 24/7. In 2023, the Rockmart training facilities conducted nearly 3,000 hours of both hands-on and classroom instruction, the company said, to train employees and help team members further their careers.
