Georgia Natural Gas has offset 500 million pounds of carbon emissions through its Greener Life program.

In honor of reaching this offset milestone, which is equivalent to taking more than 50,000 cars off the road for a year, Georgia Natural Gas has enhanced Greener Life to give customers the benefits of certified low emissions gas at no additional cost. Certified low emissions gas is sourced from companies using industry best practices to lower methane emissions and environmental impact.

To determine this, Georgia Natural Gas has partnered with MiQ, a nonprofit certifier of natural gas whose methane standard has been adopted by some of the world’s biggest natural gas producers.

“It’s amazing to think about the impact our Greener Life customers have made in just five short years,” Aimee Henderson, director of Mass Markets at Georgia Natural Gas, said. “That’s why we’re thrilled to expand Greener Life with a new, simple way for customers to reduce their emissions footprint even further.”

Since Georgia Natural Gas launched Greener Life in 2019, more than 30,000 customers have made their natural gas usage in their homes carbon neutral. And b including the benefits of certified low emissions gas, Greener Life customers now receive the benefits of reducing methane where the gas is produced, as well.

Georgia Natural Gas is a subsidiary of Southern Company.
