Slumbers wants British Open revenue directed to the right places
TROON, Scotland — The British Open raised its purse by $500,000 to $17 million, which Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews chief Martin Slumbers attributed more to inflation than trying to keep pace with the other majors. He offered no apologies for that on Wednesday. The other...

Great golf and being on the good side of the draw go a long way at the British Open
TROON, Scotland — Justin Thomas made his British Open debut at Royal Troon eight years ago, and it taught him everything he needs to know about what can make this major so maddening. It had nothing to do with gorse bushes or pot bunkers. It was about weather and...
The White Sox might not be a work of art on the field, but artists are turning the season into posters
Sitting in the middle of his All Star Press gallery in Logan Square, Zissou Tasseff-Elenkoff sees a Chicago that loves its art and sports. Murals and sculptures and statues. Football, baseball, basketball and more. It's only natural, he says, that they should all play together. “I think the connections to...

No surprise
It comes as no surprise that some nut took a shot at Donald Trump at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Instead of debating the issues and facts that concern Americans (taxes, the economy, government spending, crime, illegal immigration), the Democrats attacked Trump with a daily mantra calling him “racist”, “a Nazi”, “a threat to our democracy” and “worse than Hitler”.
Ironic demands
I find it ironic, that in light of the recent attempt on Mr. Trump's life, disgusting, sad and vile as it was, that the Republican talking heads were quick to denounce the state of the political environment in this country. Shouts of, "be civil", “we need to unite", “this is not the United States of America", "rhetoric needs to be toned down", came raining down within a short time after the incident.
Don’t let extremists control conversation
Like many Americans, I was shocked by the failed attempt to assassinate former POTUS Donald J. Trump. Moreover, I was pleased to see the outpouring of support from President Biden, Nancy Pelosi, J.B. Pritzker and Brandon Johnson. Although each is a political adversary of Mr. Trump, they unequivocally condemned the brazen assault on the former President. Violence has no place in a thriving democratic republic.
Column clearly wrong about court decision
I’m mystified why the Daily Herald would publish such a ridiculous, false column as the one by Jeff Robbins on July 11. Robbins says the Supreme Court ruling regarding presidential immunity handed “Donald Trump carte blanche to commit whatever crimes he chooses if he returns to the presidency.”
Trump has shown he knows the job
Americans, especially Independent voters must research what America was like during Trump’s administration. You will see you are not to worry that Trump will become a dictator (nor could he) and you will see America will not turn into a nation of chaos. What you will be reminded of...
