A traffic collision near State Route 74 and Lake Pleasant Parkway has resulted in a fatality, according to a news release from the Peoria Police Department.

Members of the Peoria Police and Peoria Fire-Medical departments responded to an injury collision near State Route 74 and Lake Pleasant Parkway at 3:53 p.m., Aug. 22.

The collision involved two vehicles: a silver 2016 Hyundai Sonata and a black 2010 Ford F150.

Preliminary investigation showed the driver of the F150 was traveling eastbound on State Route 74, approaching the intersection of Lake Pleasant Parkway. The silver Sonata was westbound in the left-hand turn lane on State Route 74 when the collision occurred in the middle of the intersection.

Both occupants of the silver Sonata were taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. One of the occupants died from their injuries at the hospital and has been identified as 22-year-old Ronald Dixon from Las Vegas, Nevada.

The driver of the F150 was not injured and remained on scene throughout the investigation. The area was closed for several hours during the investigation but was re-opened for normal traffic at about 8:30 p.m.

This incident is still being investigated by the Peoria Police Department’s Traffic Services Unit, and detectives are determining if speed or impairment are factors.

Police thanked motorists who stopped to render aid.

"We appreciate everyone’s patience while the roadway was closed," the news release said.
