Child Development Center closes after loss of state contract
The Child Development Center closed its locations in Missoula and Kalispell last week following the loss of a five-year state contract that funded early intervention services. The nonprofit provides services to children who have developmental delays or disabilities. Its family support specialists work with patients in their homes, administering physical, occupational and speech therapies, parent trainings and behavioral health support. Child Development Center Executive Director Greg Malone said their Montana Milestones Early Intervention contract, also known as Part C, provided funding for 30% of their services and about half of their staff. Flathead County Library Board kicks logo design back to committee
Bowing to repeated calls for a more professional design for a future logo, the Flathead County Library Board opted Thursday to go back to the drawing board.The move came after the board issued an open call for designs from the community. Submissions were narrowed down to five choices by library trustees and put to a public vote between the board’s May and June meetings. Nominations are being taken for the coolest manufactured product, software, or application made in Montana. Search crews scour Kootenai River for missing kayaker
Search teams continued to look Saturday for a missing woman who disappeared while kayaking the Kootenai River in Northwest Montana earlier in the week.According to Lincoln County Sheriff Darren Short, teams with the county and David Thompson Search and Rescue were using everything in their tool boxes to locate the missing woman, Jessica Prado.In addition to dogs and a drone, underwater camera equipment was used to aid in the hunt for woman. Larry M. Bailey, 74, of Loris, South Carolina, took on the next great adventure on Wednesday, Jun 12, 2024. He was born Sept. 2, 1949, in Kalispell, the son of Lawrence and Ferol Bailey. Larry was a major part of developing the horse community in Montana. He trained at a dressage stable built by Kurt Maxey and run by Roy Larson on the east side of Kalispell, eventually taking over the stable in 1970. Ronald "Ron" Alstad, 65, passed away at home Aug. 27, 2022, after a short battle with bladder cancer. He was born in Kalispell, on Sept. 5, 1956, to Orlando (Ole) and Dorothy Alstad. He attended Montford, Fairview, Fair-Mont Egan School and Flathead High School, graduating in 1974. Ron worked at the Columbia Falls Aluminum Plant from 1976 to 2000. After retiring from CFAC he began working at the Rainbow Bar, and then Passmore Farms. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, boating, playing pool, cribbage, cards, and darts.
