WALWORTH -- Two veterans and a youngster will represent the Eagles at state.

Seniors Alexis Dobson and Jena Lenz along with freshman Ella Fetherston qualified for the State Track and Field Championships out of Thursday's Division 2 Big Foot sectional with top-four finishes.

Dobson placed second in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 2 1/4 inches.

"Alexis has battled all year long with throwing," Jefferson track and field coach Doug Siegert said. "She worked through a shoulder injury about halfway through the season and wasn't throwing her best throws at the end of April into May. She rose to the challenge this week and started throwing the way we all knew she could."

Lenz was fourth in the discus with a mark of 109-1.

"Jena has hovered around 100 feet for a long time, but never over," Siegert said. "She threw 99-11 at regionals to get her to sectionals. She knew she had to throw well over 100 feet to move on to the state meet. Her warmups looked great and with a slight adjustment from coach Katy Voight, our throws coach, she threw a huge personal best of 108-4 on her first throw. She bested that throw again with a throw of 109-1.

"To have Alexis and Jena make it to state together is so special. They have been friends forever, growing up with each other playing youth sports and attending the same elementary school together is amazing. As a coaching staff, we are blessed to have known them so long. Coach Megan Carstens and I taught them at West Elementary and Coach Voight was not only their throws coach, but also coached them in basketball. We love that we get a chance to coach them one more time in La Crosse."

Fetherston took fourth in the 400-meter run in 1:01.88.

"Ella is having a great freshman season," Siegert said. "She started her season as a straight sprinter, running only 100 and 200 meter races. Coach Carstens saw her potential as a 400 meter runner and Ella took off with that role.

"Ella has been juggling workouts with our sprint group, mid-distance group and long jumping. We love to see Ella's excitement as we move forward into this week of practice for the state meet."

Jefferson's girls scored 24.5 points to finish 11th.

Sophomore Zofia Raduege tied for fifth in the pole vault (9-0).

Fetherston was also eighth in the long jump with a leap of 15-5 and junior teammate Annika Bilau took 11th (14-10).

Lenz was eighth in the shot put (32-6).

The 3,200 relay team of junior Mackenzie Denton, sophomore Addy Nelson, junior Lexi Weinbrenner and sophomore Madeline Dehnert took eighth in 10:48.11.

Freshman Madeleine Luebbe took 12th in the 3,200 in 13:19.11.

Jefferson's boys scored 13 points to finish 18th.

Senior Colton Krause finished fifth in the 200 in 22.55, missing out on a state berth by 33 one-hundredths of a second.

The 3,200 relay team of junior Patrick Sande, seniors Lucas Frank and Jonathon Ellifson and junior Derek Morrison finished fifth in 8:24.40. Lake Mills secured the last state berth in 8:21.73. Morrison was also fifth in the 800 in 2:01.50.

Sophomore Jaden Golisch was eighth in the 110 hurdles (17.23).

The WIAA State Track and Field Championships will be held at UW-La Crosse on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1.
