LODI -- Jefferson senior Derek Morrison and junior Madeline Dehnert won their respective races to lead the Eagles at the Lodi cross country invitational on Saturday.

Morrison won the boys race by seven seconds, crossing the finish line in 17:47. Sophomore Jeshua Perez-Hernandez (tenth, 19:09), freshman Solomon Schnuelle (17th, 20:13) and seniors Quinn Rundle (21st, 20:35) and Noah Gellendin (23rd, 20:47) also scored for Jefferson, which finished fourth with 72 points.

Jefferson's girls won the team title going away with 20 points, which was 54 better than runner-up Brodhead/Juda.

The Eagles claimed the top three spots. Dehnert won the girls race in 21:47. Senior Olivia Jennrich was a close second (21:56) and sophomore Madeleine Luebbe was third (22:23). Senior Lexi Weinbrenner (eighth, 24:00) and sophomore Anneka Schuld (tenth, 24:23) also scored for Jefferson.

"Fabulous weather, a challenging course and a great atmosphere set up for an outstanding day for our team today," Jefferson cross country coach Megan Carstens said. "Our team came out and attacked the course. They were disciplined at the beginning, aggressive on the hilly section and fought through the finish line. It was exciting to see so many personal records go down today.

"Taking first individually in both the girls and boys race was a rare feat. Derek Morrison ran a strategic first mile, keeping himself within striking distance. Half way through the race, he stayed attached and then ran an outstanding last mile to take the top spot leading the boys to a fourth place finish.

"The girls team showed its depth finishing with the top three individual spots. The pack up front of Maddie, Olivia, and Madeleine worked together flawlessly, feeding off each other and not settling. The girls impressed the field scoring a mere 20 points."

Palmyra-Eagle's girls fielded an incomplete team. Senior Carly Boyle (34th, 29:00) and junior Michelle Stroh (37th, 29:41) competed for the Panthers.

    Team scores - boys: Lodi 47, Waterloo 62, Milton 63, Jefferson 72, Brodhead/Juda 85.

    Team scores - girls: Jefferson 20, Brodhead/Juda 74, Milton 80, Parkview 91, Lodi 95, Waterloo 157.
