JEFFERSON — Bentley Wagner and Ben Kalmon combined on a five-hitter with 12 strikeouts as Jefferson opened its summer baseball season by beating Stoughton 8-0 at Fischer Field on Monday.

Wagner started and tossed the first four frames, allowing four hits while fanning eight against one walk. Kalmon then pitched three innings of one-hit ball with four strikeouts, two walks to end it and earn the decision.

Jefferson leadoff man Nolan Burzlaff scored twice, Cale Schmidt added two hits and Gavin Berge drove in two runs.

Jefferson drew four consecutive bases-loaded two-out walks to break a scoreless tie in the fifth. Berge, Tyler Steinke, Sam Steies and Tyler Altermatt all walked before Wagner was hit by a bases-loaded pitch and Finn DeBlare singled home a run with an infield hit.

Jefferson travels to face Waterloo on Thursday at 5 p.m.
