A little more cooperation from Mother Nature would be nice as the spring sports season starts revving up. Indoor track has concluded and those athletes will soon be plying their trade outdoors.
Still, there were a number of athletes have provided a list of candidates for the Daily Leader Athlete of the Week honor for the week of March 18-23.
Each week, the Daily Leader nominates a group of stars and you get to go and vote in our poll. The voting at pontiacdailyleader.com ends at noon on Friday. Coaches may email Erich Murphy at emurphy@gannett.com by 9 a.m. each Monday to submit a potential nominee who can be placed on the ballot.
Henry Brummel, Pontiac
Brummel helped himself at the plate and on the mound in a win over Ottawa. Brummel struck out nine in his three innings of work on the bump. He had two doubles and drove in four runs at the plate.
Olivia Chismarick, Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell
Chismarick had a triple, two doubles and two singles for Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell in a trio of softball contests. The Warriors went 2-1 in those games.

Marcus Czapar, El Paso-Gridley
Czapar got over the bar at 14-1¾ to win the pole vault, winning on a number of misses at the Illinois Top Times Meet at Illinois Wesleyan.
Taylor Heath, Dwight
Heath recorded 13 strikeouts in pitching the Trojans in the first of two wins over Henry-Senachwine. She also had two hits and drove in a run. Heath chalked up a double, single at the plate and fanned three in relief in getting the win in the second game.
Graham Meister, Dwight
Meister set a personal-best mark with a push of 51-1¾ to claim the shot put event at the Illinois Top Times Meet at Illinois Wesleyan.
Aubrey Phillips, El Paso-Gridley
Phillips captured the high jump event after clearing 5 feet, 5 inches at the Illinois Top Times Meet at Illinois Wesleyan.
Avery Scheuer, Dwight
Scheuer had a good week at the plate as Dwight swept Henry-Senachwine. Her big hit was a two-run homer that lifted the Trojans in the extra-inning win in Game 2. She had three hits and three runs batted in in that game. Scheuer added a hit and RBI in Game 1.
Shae Simons, Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell
Simons struck out 10 as she tossed shut out Lowpoint-Washburn for her second no-hitter of the young season. In their second game, Simons collected a double, single and drove in a run. She had seven strikeouts in a loss to St. Bede.
