A Pontiac man died Tuesday from "compression-type" injuries he sustained while working at Johnson Press of America , 800 N. Court St. in Pontiac.

Livingston County Coroner Michael Renner released the preliminary cause of death Thursday along with other details from the coroner's office's investigation into the death of 36-year-old Timothy Legner.

Legner died after being trapped between a roll of printing paper and a forklift at Johnson Press of America, according to the coroner.

The release states that Legner was working the night shift Sept. 2 as an assistant press operator at the facility when the incident took place. Pontiac Fire and EMS was called at 11:40 p.m. Legner was transported to OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center before being pronounced dead in the early morning hours of Sept. 3.

Pontiac Police Assistant Chief Brad Baird said his department was notified by Pontiac Fire and EMS at 1:02 a.m. of the incident and that the victim had died from his injuries.

According to the coroner’s release, Legner was found trapped between a forklift and an industrial size roll of printing paper.

The roll clamp that is attached to the front of the forklift trapped Legner against the 3,300-pound roll of paper. Another employee found Legner with the roll clamp pressing against the victim’s back soon after the incident took place. Legner had been operating the forklift to move the roll of paper to the roll carriage so it could be loaded onto the press.

The Livingston County Coroner’s Office, Pontiac Police and OSHA are investigating the incident.
