Prairie Central notched its first win of the season with a 37-7 decision over Pontiac in an Illini Prairie Conference contest Friday night at Williamson Field.

It took the Hawks (1-1) practically no time to find the end zone as Quarterback Dalton Steidinger connected with Tagen Fehr along the PC sideline. Fehr raced down the sideline for a 42-yard score. James Parga added the conversion try. Parga was good on four of five such tries and added a 25-yard field goal on the night.

Steidinger and Fehr added a 44-yard touchdown pass play in the second period. Hudson Ault, who has been dealing with a foot injury, scored on runs of 14 yards in the first period and seven yards in the fourth period. PC’s final tally came on a 23-yard interception return from Wyatt Edelman.

Ault rushed for 80 yards and his two TDs for the Hawks, who had nine different ball carriers on the night. Steidinger was 8 of 10 throwing for 150 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Fehr had three catches for 94 yards and two TDs.

Pontiac’s score came when Riley Johnson returned a pick 23 yards for a touchdown in the second period, making 21-7 at the time. Cesar Gutierrez led the Pontiac (0-2) run game with 63 yards on six trips. Aiden Alcon rushed for 51 yards on 16 totes. Alvin DeLong didn’t complete a pass but did throw an interception.

Prairie Central will be home next Friday to host St. Joseph-Ogden. Pontiac will be at Rantoul.

At El Paso, Casey-Westfield scored three touchdowns in the second quarter and tacked on one more in the fourth to leave town with a 28-14 nonconference win over host El Paso-Gridley Friday night. The Warriors’ (2-0) Nolan Clement ran for two scores and threw for another to lead his team to a 21-0 halftime lead.

The Titans (1-1) got on the board early in the fourth period when Owen Bergquist hit Jeremy Yoss for a 26-yard score. Casey-Westfield responded with a 93-yard touchdown connection, but EPG answered with an 88-yard kickoff return from Yoss.

Bergquist threw for 126 yards and Mason Vandegraft had five catches for 49 yards. The Titans will host Ridgeview-Lexington on Sept. 13.
