Crews from the Frostburg Fire Department and nearby agencies were called at around 3:45 a.m. on July 22 in Allegany County, where a massive blaze broke out in a home on Welsh Hill Road in Frostburg.

According to the Maryland Fire Marshal, 60 firefighters were able to get the situation under control in just 15 minutes, and once the fire was extinguished, they found one person inside.

The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore to determine the victim's identity, as well as the exact cause and manner of death

Two others were able to get out of the house safely.

Officials said that they are "continuing to confirm reports that the victim may have gone back inside the burning home after getting out."

Investigators say that they believe the fire originated in a basement garage, though the cause remains under investigation.

"Our hearts are with the Frostburg community after a tough morning," acting State Fire Marshal Jason Mowbray stated.

"This is another tragic reminder to check your smoke alarms. Have an escape plan, and once you and your loved ones get out, stay out."
