At 1:52 p.m., police responded to Bergen Street and South Orange Avenue on a report of shots fired, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. Police did not locate any victims but recovered ballistic evidence of a shooting at a gas station on the 200 block of South Orange Avenue, Fragé said.

Lead Charter School, at 571 Central Ave., was temporarily locked down to ensure the safety of students, Fragé said.

No injuries were reported and the shooting remains under investigation, Fragé said.

We need more patrolling all county areas need a meeting official meeting and the government should bring back the death penalty. This is outrageous. The police need to do more patrolling do your job that’s why you get paid for the police chief better wake up and not just one area or areas in New Jersey do something instead of sitting behind and watching the government should look at this way how can we stay safe if this keeps happening to us how can we keep our children safe from this chaos think about the children people just because you asked for more in your paycheck it’s either your safety or your pay which is it for real I would pick safety first before pay so please officers you have better control more often and stop slacking and the officers that are doing their job. I appreciate you doing your work, but seriously this is outrageous. Kids are getting hurt look at the news, common sense to tell you ban all weapons now you guys need to get tougher and stop favoring to protect.
