Driver Smashed Through Fence, Sign At Park Fleeing 'For The Fun Of It' In Virginia: Sheriff

An 18-year-old driver who smashed through a fence at a Stafford County park and attempted to flee isn't having fun anymore after being apprehended by deputies from the sheriff's office.

A group of teenagers, led by their driver, are facing multiple charges for allegedly drinking under age, crashing their Toyota, and attempting to toss away booze they were too young to be drinking, authorities announced.

Shortly before 3 a.m. on Thursday morning, a deputy was called to Smith Lake Park on Doc Stone Road in Stafford, where there was a reported crash after a driver struck a gate, then a sign, as it was attempting to flee the area.

As the deputy arrived at the crash site, he spotted three suspects fleeing into the woods, and he also located an empty beer bottle and partially full bottle of Hennessy.

Responding deputies formed a perimeter, according to a spokesperson from the Stafford County Sheriff's Office, where they located the trio on Cliff Circle, two of whom were 18 years old, while the third was a minor reported missing out of a nearby Virginia jurisdiction .

One of the 18-year-olds was identified as a the driver, and he showed signs of intoxication, investigators said. He also had no driver's license, and compounded his troubles by admitting that he ran "for the fun of it."

His fun ended up with him being charged with DUI, hit-and-run, driving without a license, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 secured bond.

The teen's 18-year-old female passenger also showed signs of intoxication, officials said, and was charged with public intoxication, failure to report a crash, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Following their arrests, the missing minor was returned back to her family.
