Marciano Sanchez, 40, was arrested in New York City on Wednesday, Oct. 2, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said in a news release. Sanchez's last known address was in Queens.

Sanchez was on New Jersey’s Most Wanted list after a shooting in Brick on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010. Police responded to a gunshot victim at the Community First Aid building on Mantoloking Road.

Officers found a man who had been shot in the face. He was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and released from the Neptune hospital.

Investigators identified Sanchez as the shooting suspect. He was charged on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, with attempted murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

A warrant was issued for Sanchez’s arrest and his name was entered in the National Crime Information Center database.

State police and the New York/New Jersey U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force brought Sanchez into custody nearly 14 years after the shooting.

"The apprehension of one of New Jersey’s Most Wanted is a powerful reminder of the unwavering determination and cooperation between law enforcement agencies," said state police superintendent Col. Patrick Callahan. "By removing this dangerous criminal from our streets, we send a clear and decisive message: no matter how long it takes or how far they run, we will find and bring to justice those who threaten the safety of our communities."

Sanchez was held in jail on Riker’s Island. He is awaiting extradition to Ocean County.

According to New York City Department of Corrections online records, Sanchez's next court appearance was scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 10.
