A Maryland bank was temporarily left inoperative on Thursday morning when a fire broke out in a secured room, leading to a tricky battle for first responders.

In Wicomico County, crews from the Salisbury Fire Department were called to PNC Bank at around 5:15 a.m. on Oct. 10 after being alerted by a security alarm and customer about the fire, which started in a secured ATM room that contained IT equipment.

Upon arrival, officials say that firefighters were met by smoke coming from building, and it took approximately a half hour to get the fire under control once they were able to get inside the bank.

Once extinguished, the branch was temporarily inoperative, according to the Maryland Fire Marshal.

The fire caused an estimated $150,000 ($50,000 to the structure, $100,000 to its contents). The preliminary cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
