The pedestrian who was struck dead in Montgomery County on Sunday morning, Oct. 13, has been identified, the Montgomery County Coroner's Office told Daily Voice on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Joseph Mastromatto, 35, of Hilltown Township, died from "blunt impact injuries," the coroner's office told Daily Voice. His death was ruled "accidental in nature."

The collision happened in the area of 1330 North Broad Street at 6:19 a.m., Hatfield Police detailed in a news release.

Officers called to the scene found a 34-year-old man lying "face down in the roadway," as stated in the release.

The road closed between Lynwood and Medical Campus drives for the crash investigation, the police explained in a separate release.

The police investigation revealed the following as written in a release:

"The investigation revealed a 2013 Mercedes Benz SUV was traveling westbound on N. Broad St. and struck the male pedestrian who had entered the roadway from the eastbound side. The driver of the Mercedes Benz immediately stopped his vehicle and remained on scene. The Volunteer Medical Services Co. arrived on scene and tended to the pedestrian, however it was determined that he was deceased as a result of being struck."

The Hatfield Police Traffic Safety Unit is continuing its investigation into this crash.

In addition to the police the Colmar Fire Company, Colmar Fire Police, VMSC, and Fairmount Fire Police assisted at the scene.

Anyone with information concerning this crash is asked to contact Officer Mark O’Donnell or Sergeant Michael Sloan at 215-855-0903.
