Following a residential burglary on a quiet Westchester street, police are warning residents to be wary of suspects believed to be targeting unoccupied homes.

The burglary was detailed in an announcement on Monday, Oct. 28 by the City of Rye Police Department, which revealed it happened at a home on Colby Avenue sometime over the weekend of Saturday, Oct. 26.

Although police did not release more details about the burglary, they advised residents in the area to lock their homes and secure their property in the event that the suspects strike again.

"The perpetrators may be targeting unoccupied homes," the department said on social media, adding, "Please secure any valuables in a safe or safety deposit box, as thieves are reportedly looking for jewelry, designer bags, and cash."

The department also told residents to make sure their house alarms are activated when they leave.

Any suspicious activity can be reported to the City of Rye Police Department at 914-967-1234.
