The University of Tennessee at Martin’s rodeo team started their 2024-25 season strong at the Missouri Valley College rodeo in Marshall, Missouri. The Skyhawk Cowgirls secured an impressive third-place finish, totaling 185 points, while the men’s team placed eighth with 50 points. Freshman Bentley Anthony had a standout performance, finishing third in calf roping.

Sophomore Rylee Wells also excelled, showcasing her skills in breakaway roping. Emma Kate Wilder and Savannah Moran contributed crucial points in goat tying and barrel racing, respectively. Coach John Smith expressed his confidence in the team, stating, “We have a strong lineup this year and are focused on making a big impact from the very beginning.”

The Skyhawk Cowgirls’ third-place finish sets a positive tone for the rest of the season, reflecting the hard work and dedication put in by the team and coaching staff during the off-season.

    Skyhawk Cowgirls’ strong early season

The rodeo competition is known for its challenging events and strong competitors, making the Skyhawk Cowgirls’ achievement all the more noteworthy. While the women’s team performed well, the men’s team struggled to keep pace, placing significantly behind the top teams.

UT Martin will compete again next weekend from September 26-28, presenting an opportunity to improve their rankings and secure more points. The team remains optimistic and motivated to build on their success in the forthcoming rodeo season.

The University of Tennessee at Martin has a rich history in college rodeo, and expectations are high as the team embarks on another exciting season. Fans are eagerly anticipating the team’s future performances and are encouraged to stay tuned for more updates on their progress and upcoming events.
