Hughes Springs Library kicks off summer fun with HSVFD

The library has a wide-variety of events scheduled throughout the summer for children of all ages. The program at Hughes Springs kicked off on June 6 with preschool and elementary story time. Wednesday was Game Day, featuring board and video games, as well as Legos for those with interests in building. NTCC Board meets for regular May meeting
The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees met for its regular May meeting on Tuesday, May 30th. The board voted to approve Russell East of Lone Star to fill the remainder of the term for Place Four. Trammel’s Trace DAR presents Youth Citizenship Awards
, Each year, the Trammel’s Trace Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution solicits nominations from Cass County teachers in order to choose students who best exemplify characteristics of leadership, dependability, and patriotism. From these nominations, one eighth-grade student from each middle school is chosen to receive the DAR Youth Citizenship Award. Kerri Ann Rhodes of Hughes Springs Junior High School received this award on May 16 from DAR member Brinda Mandella. Jordyn Dowell received this award on May 18 at the Avinger Awards Ceremony from DAR members Nancy Gordon and Judith Salmon. For more than a century, members of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution have dedicated themselves to historic preservation, promotion of education, and encouragement of patriotic endeavors.
Greer Farm open for your berry-picking pleasure
Daingerfield’s local berry patch, Greer Farm, is once again open for business. The berry farm opened to the public June 2. Greer Farm, located at 1444 County Road 1125 in Daingerfield, features self-pick, fresh blueberries and blackberries. According to the Greer Farm Facebook page, now is the time to pick blackberries, as early in the season they are sweeter. Though early in the season, both blackberries and blueberries are abundant. The Greer Farm Berry Patch is now open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. After hours picking is also available; simply call 903-452-9738 so they know you want to pick. Check out is same as last year in, the metal shop building west of the house. They furnish buckets to pick in and bags to line them. Berries are $3.50 per pound, you pick.

Hughes Springs’ Rozell graduates from Harding University
Savannah Rozell of Hughes Springs is one of more than 600 students who received diplomas and were recognized as Harding University graduates for Spring 2023 during a commencement ceremony on May 6. Rozell received a doctorate in pharmacy. Graduates include students from the College of Allied Health, College of Arts and Humanities, College of Bible and Ministry, Paul R. Carter College of Business Administration, Cannon-Clary College of Education, Carr College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, College of Sciences and University College. University President Mike Williams recognized the candidates as they were recommended by the faculty for graduation.

New council members take seat at special May meeting
, The Daingerfield City Council officially has two new members, after recently elected David Hood and Ben Ramirez, along with the re-elected Mike Carter were sworn in on May 15. The council met in special session on May 15 to canvass votes from the May 6 elections, which featured the three council positions and a local option for mixed drink sales. , Daingerfield-Lone Star celebrated the Class of 2023 with commencement ceremonies on May 26. The graduates were treated to a reception where family and friends honored the group prior to the ceremonies. The top twelve graduates were recognized at the beginning of the ceremonies for their diligent work in the classroom.
