Daingerfield’s Salazar places fifth in UIL State Number Sense Championship
Dante Salazar, a junior at Daingerfield High School, placed fifth at the UIL State Number Sense Contest held in Austin on May 18, out of twenty-six State Qualifiers in the 3A classification. The number sense test is composed of 80 questions and a student must use “mental” math to solve the problems. Only the answer can be written, an no scratch work or mark overs are allowed. A student has only 10 minutes to complete the test. Dante correctly answered 45 questions in the time limit, including questions such as 520 x 15, 59 x 59, 2022 x 25, 9114 divided by 93, and 1817 x 16. Ssalazar qualified to go to the State Academic Meet by winning the Regional 3A Number Sense contest held at Tyler Junior College in April.
Conservative journalist to speak to GOP women this week
Brandon Waltens, managing editor for Texas Scorecard, an online conservative news site, will provide an update on the 88th Legislature when he speaks to the Conservative Republican Women of Northeast Texas this week. The meeting is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at the Mount Pleasant Country Club and is open to the public. Waltens has been capital bureau chief for Empower Texans and was part of Young Conservatives of Texas while in college. He has extensive experience working on campaigns for conservative Texas legislators and also has served as legislative chief of staff for a state representative. The current legislative session ends Monday, May 29. Free childcare will be provided for children who are potty-trained through age 10. Spring Cleanup Tire Disposal Program
The Cass County Commissioners Court has received grant funding for a pilot program to assist in the disposal of used tires. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has authority per Texas Health and Safety Code (THSC) Chapter 361 to remediate unauthorized disposal sites but no appropriations to fund cleanups. To that end, Cass County has partnered with the Ark-Tex Council of Government (ATCOG), and Arklatex Tire Processing to provide for disposal of up to four tires per citizen during the cleanup period which is scheduled to run until the end of June. Several game rooms in Morris County have shutdown after multiple law enforcement agencies, including Homeland Security Investigations, made their way through the county. Lady Tigers take part in State Track Meet
, The Daingerfield Lady Tigers traveled to Austin last week, where they participated in the 3A UIL State Championship Track Meet. The Lady Tigers participated in the 4x100M Relay, finishing sixth overall after running their best time of the year. The team consists of Ja’Khyra Connor, Ricoya Hayes, Alexis Williams, and Chrishlyn Boyd. In the 300M Hurdles, Hayes broke the school record in the event. She had previously broken the school record at the Regional Track Meet in Whitehouse. Competing in the 100M Hurdles, senior Alexis Williams completed her high school track career with her state appearance in two events. The Lady Tigers are coached by Dana Carter.
