Nothing But a Hound Dog
Ahomeless man in coveralls carrying two jugs of water bounced with a gait while singing. I walked over to him, offering hand warmers. “Hi, please take these. It’s only going to get colder tonight.” “ Whoa! Thank you. They’ll come in handy.” I tucked a couple of scripture cards into the bib of his coveralls, next to his suspenders. “And read these, if you will.” “I will, but wait. Did you know I can sing?” He held the bag of hand warmers between two fingers, clutching the handles on the jugs. “Do you like Elvis songs? Tell me your favorite.” “I can’t think...

F ew individuals in American history have made an impact as sizable as Martin Luther King, Jr. King wore many hats throughout his tragically short life, from minister to activist to scholar, leaving behind a legacy that is worthy of celebration. Though King was assassinated before he even reached his fortieth birthday, his life was filled with many notable events. Why Was Jesus Baptized?
That’s a good question. The word baptize means “to wash.” Peter, however, tells us that baptism isn’t the washing of dirt from the body, but rather a cleansing of the conscience (1 Peter 3:21). Baptism is the promise and seal of forgiveness. When a person is baptized, God is assuring them that they are washed of all their sins through faith. So, again I ask: Why was Jesus baptized? Jesus is God in every way. Jesus never sinned even once. Why would he need to be baptized? When Jesus went to the Jordan River to be baptized by John the Baptist, John was...

NTCC Athletics moves to cashless athletic events
Northeast Texas Community College Athletics is moving to cashless concessions for the upcoming 2024 sports seasons. In an effort to help our fan experience, Eagle Athletics is now working with Hometown Fan App to handle all ticket sales and concession sales. Patrons can download the Hometown Tickets App to their mobile device, scan a QR Code at the gate, or visit our athletics website to purchase tickets at www. ntcceagles.com. Current NTCC Students and Staff will be able to download their free season pass from the app by entering their student ID or Employee ID number. The season pass is good for the pass holder only, no friends and family. You will still need to scan in with the ticket booth so we can get an accurate count of attendance each game. All ticket sales and concession will be handled through Hometown no cash sales at the gate or concession stands.

Tigers fall in final game of 2023 but open 2024 with road win
Daingerfield basketball looked to finish 2023 on a strong note and start 2024 off with a win in their last two games. The Tigers closed 2023 by traveling to Jefferson to meet the Bulldogs for the third time this season. Unfortunately, the result was the same as the previous two meetings. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 16-5 lead after the first quarter and took a 32-15 lead into halftime on their way to a 57-37 win over the Tigers. Keegan White and Brayden Williams both added six, Skylar Smith finished with five, Bryson Franklin added three and Bryson Lee put in two. Luke Elder and Travis Gray Jr. each led Jefferson with 18 points. Jakyrie Johnson and Jeramaine Hopkins each added five. The Tigers opened the new year with a road win over Pittsburg, 56-30. Ride the Motorcycle of Life
Istood on the corner with a bearded man, his face worn, but he was smiling. He has experienced many stages in his life, from the known to the unknown, and now lives on the street. But his joy at receiving a few hand warmers and a fresh blanket was apparent. I discovered he and I lived in California simultaneously many years ago. And we’re the same age. His face lit up, and despite the temperature outside, it transcended our hearts to a season of warm memories when we were both much younger. He told me of his many motorcycle trips and the highways...
