On April 24, four members of the Daingerfield FFA traveled to Gilmer to compete in the Daingerfield District FFA Public Speaking Contest which was held at Gilmer High School. FFA Public Speaking Events are designed to develop the ability of all FFA members to express themselves on a given subject. Students are encouraged to develop their communication skills and learn to formulate their remarks for presentation in a variety of situations. Daingerfield FFA Forage Team competes at State
The Daingerfield FFA Forage Evaluation team, composed of DJHS eighth graders (from left) Rebecca Swindle, Blaze Anderson, Kaidence Mason, and Arryanna Evans, placed 49th in the state competition out of 83 teams. The Daingerfield FFA Forage team was coached and trained by DJHS agricultural science teacher Leigh Ann Freeman. The competition was held in Hunstville on April 28.
Daingerfield Ag Mech Team wins Blue Ribbons
On April 26, eight members of the Daingerfield FFA traveled to Brenham, TX to compete in the Blinn Agricultural Mechanics Show which was held at W.J. Bill Rankin Agricultural Complex of the Blinn Junior College. FFA members exhibited 4 shop projects at the Blinn Ag Mech Show, all of which received blue ribbons. The projects shown included a 500 pound capacity creep feeder, an 11 foot tall mobile a-frame gantry hoist, a shop grinder trolley, and a truck hitch mountable squirrel processor. Hughes Springs Culinary department serves at Cass County Women’s Luncheon
Hughes Springs Advanced Culinary served around 300 women of Cass County yesterday at the Atlanta Area Chamber of Commerce’s Women’s Luncheon. The students have been busy raising money for their culinary trip to Ft. Worth next week. They fund the trip from their hard work throughout the year. Any funds not used are given back to the students in the form of a scholarship. Collaborative celebrates new home
, , , , , , , , The Morris County Collaborative now has a local place to call home, after having a ribbon cutting on their new location at 200 Jefferson Street in Daingerfield. The Collaborative, which was formed in 2018 as part of a grant from the HOGG Foundation for Mental Health, had been looking for a location to call home for some time. Voters in Morris County were at the polls on May 6 for a variety of issues, including a local option election for mixed drink sales in Daingerfield and bond proposal for Pewitt CISD. All results are considered unofficial until each municipality officially canvasses their votes in the coming days. National FFA Scholarship awarded to Daingerfield FFA Member
The National FFA Organization awarded Daingerfield FFA member and DHS senior Salvador Velasquez the four-year FFA Future Leaders Scholarship sponsored by Tractor Supply Company valued at $10,000. Mr. Velasquez plans to use the funds to pursue a degree in pre-veterinary medicine at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Mr. Velasquez was one of 1,325 FFA students from 43 states who were awarded more than $2.5 million in scholarships and grants from generous individuals, businesses, and corporate sponsors to encourage excellence and enable students to pursue their educational goals. Brahmas Hodges, Johnson fly to state track meet
Two of Pewitt’s high flyers will get a chance to soar at the state track meet in Austin May 11-13 – one for the second time in as many years. Senior pole vaulter Isaac Hodges and junior long jumper Junie Johnson both qualified to the state track meet after finishing in the top two at the regional track meet, held over the weekend at Whitehouse High School. The Daingerfield Lady Tigers have two individual State Qualifieying tracksters, and one state qualifying relay team after the teams fifth place overall finish at the Regional meet on April 28 and 29. Alexis Williams finished second in the 100M hurdles and Ricoya Hayes finished second in the 300M Hurdles, which qualifiers both for the State meet. Hayes also set a new school record in the 300M Hurdles. WIllliams and Hayes also were a part of the second place 4x100M Relay team, along with Ja’Khyra Connor and Chrishlyn Boyd. The second-place finish qualified the relay team for the state meet as well. Williams, Hayes, Connor, and Boyd also comprised the 4x200M Relay, which finished fourth at the Regional meet. The Lady Tigers compete at the State Track Meet on Thursday, May 11 at Mike Myers Stadium in Austin.

Martha Baker, MCC Resource Committee Chairman did a brief overview of the program including introductions of the MCC Board members, NTCC staff, and City/County leaders who were present. , , , , , Another Wildflower Trails weekend has come and gone, and despite Mother Nature’s best efforts, the weekend seemed to go off without a hitch in Hughes Springs. The 53rd Annual festival kicked off in Hughes Springs with the carnival and Chamber of Commerce Plant Sale on Wednesday, although rainy weather cut those festivities off early. Thursday and Friday allowed for periods of enjoyment at the festival, and the forecast looked bleak for Saturday. ‘Good Witch of the South’
What a humdinger of a musical! Friday night was opening night for The Good Witch of the South musical, which was put on by Performance Supply Company- Performing Arts Classes & Community Theatre. The musical was held at The Venue at Efurd’s Orchards in Pittsburg, with four shows April 14-16. In this musical, Lullabelle Harper (played by Marcella Hodges), the Good Witch of the South rules the land of Grits & Hominy; where the pageant queens and sweet old church ladies are just about to register for the 1974 Miss Peach Pitt Pageant. The comical interactions and well-thought-out scenes were beautifully written by Jodie Stewart Wilk. Wilk incorporated inspirations from the Wizard of Oz and Southern drama perfectly in this musical. The biggest round of applause went to the cast and director for all their hard work and dedication to this musical. DLS ISD Board extends superintendent’s contract, accepts board member resignation
