12 named to THSCA academic allstate teams
A total of 12 local athletic team members were recently recognized for their work on the fields or courts and in the classroom with inclusion on the Texas High School Coaches Association academic all-state teams. In all, eight local team members were named to the academic all-state football team and four to the academic all-state volleyball team. Daingerfield student trainer Stormie Akinsuroju was named to the first team academic all-state football team. Lathan Hudson and Marlon Hayes were both named honorable mention. Pewitt’s Kaid Pureco was named to the second team.Teammates Zach Mulch, Bralyn Nix, Bradley Mines and Gage Smith were all named honorable mention. Pewitt volleyball team members Ashtyn Boyd, Natalie Cobb, Noemy Martinez and Sofia Diaz were all named to the second team academic all-state volleyball team. To make their respective academic all-state teams, an athlete, trainer or manager must be a senior in good standing with their team and are recognized based on their GPA, class rank and ACT/SAT score. Students receive points based on each criteria and, based on their point totals, are named to either the Elite team, first team, second team or honorable mention.

TxDOT prepares as winter approaches
AUSTIN — It all begins when the weather is still warm and balmy. Well before the winter season, Tx-DOT staff across the state begin to prepare for snow and ice. Morris County’s two schools met on the hardwood Dec. 15 as Pewitt traveled to Daingerfield for a boys’ matchup. , , Volleyball players from Daingerfield and Hughes Springs were honored with the release of the 15-3A all-district volleyball team, announced recently. The district-runners up Lady Mustangs received three superlative awards. Bella McKinney shared co-MVP honors with White Oak’s Calee Carter. Alyssa Baxter was named district Blocker of the Year and Kylar Johnson shared Newcomer of the Year honors with White Oak’s Ludovica Polizzi. Named to the first team were Hughes Springs’ Annie Brown and Maggie Pate. Second teamers were Hughes Springs’ Hannah Abernathy and Mallory Biddy and Daingerfield’s La’Nyecia Lewis. , Identifying efficient dairy cattle in a climate of higher temperatures is the goal of one scientist in the Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Department of Animal Science. The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees met for its regular December meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 19th at 5 p.m. Shirley Dickerson, Chief Appraiser with the Titus County Appraisal District, addressed the board for public comment. She presented Board Chair Chuck Johns with a check for $4,391 from TCAD.
