Sioux City Museum to hold an event commemorating the crash of Flight 232
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU-TV) — This week marks the 35th anniversary of the United Airlines Flight 232 crash landing in Sioux City. To mark the tragic events of July 19, 1989, the Mid America Museum of Aviation and Transportation is hosting a special community event. Since the crash landing, the museum has been home to a large collection of 232 artifacts and other keepsakes. Guests, including people who survived the crash landing, continue to visit the museum.
Ponca State Park Weekend Activities
PONCA – Ponca State Park will be offering many family activities this weekend. On Friday, Join Ponca State park for an introduction to Tomahawk and Atlatl class from 9:00-11:00am. Participants must be eight years of age or older with adult supervision. Meet and pay at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex. The cost is $1 for six throws. At 1:00pm, participants can join a naturalist to learn about Lewis and Clark and their journey passing Ponca, Nebraska on the Missouri River. It will be held for free at the Overlook.
Sioux City Art Center Hosts Artist Conversation
Free and open to the public, on July 20th from 2 – 3:30 pm, the Art Center invites you to a conversation between Tim Olson, Art and Dolores Cullen. Tim Olson, whose solo exhibition is currently on view, will be in conversation with a few special guests. Art Cullen is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, editor of The Storm Lake Times and published author. Dolores Cullen is a reporter and photographer for the Storm Lake Times, as well as an artist, teacher and musician. All three of them have deep connections to the Siouxland region.
