Sheriff: Missing man’s body found burnt in Dallas County
DALLAS COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) - Perry County Sheriff Billy Jones says a man missing from his jurisdiction has been found dead in Dallas County. Jones said the body of Christian Moore, 23, of Newbern, was found burned in his vehicle in Dallas County. He had been missing since Thursday morning.
Body found in burned truck in Valley Grande
Dallas County law enforcement is investigating the discovery of a body found burned in a truck in the Valley Grande area. Perry County Sheriff Billy Jones said they are trying to identify the badly burned body, adding it may belong to a missing Newbern man, who was last seen Thursday morning at 1 a.m. Perry and Bibb county law enforcement have been searching for Christian Moore, 23, since then with helicopters and help from FBI agents, Jones said.
Walton Theater reopens this week with kid-friendly movies
Dallas County’s only movie theater is back. After being closed for repairs for almost exactly a year, the Walton Theater returned with a “soft opening” Friday, July 12. About 120 kids, most of them summer campers, enjoyed the movie “Dr. Doolittle.” Another 20 kids came to see the show on Saturday, according to Pastor John Grayson, who rents the facility from the city of Selma.

Bogue Chitto residents celebrate connection to clear water
It’s been a decade coming, but over 70 homes in the Bogue Chitto community have been connected to clean county water for the first time. Many of the citizens who were recently connected to the county water system attended a ceremony at New Vernon Church in Marion Junction Thursday, July 11 to mark the occasion. West Dallas Water Board Vice Chair Maggie Drake-Peterson said it was the health of the citizens and the desire to make the community grow that fueled efforts to get clean water hooked up to homes in the area.

An updated heat advisory was issued by the National Weather Service on Tuesday at 12:42 p.m. in effect until 9 p.m. for Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry, Marengo, Dallas, Autauga, Lowndes, Elmore, Montgomery, Macon, Bullock, Russell, Pike and Barbour counties.
