One man is dead — another man is hurt — and another is behind bars following a shooting at a lounge in the Dallas County town of Orrville. Chief Deputy John Hatfield says 19 year old Jeremy Bryant of Orrville was killed in the shooting — and another man was shot in the leg.

The Selma Dallas County Historic Preservation Society (SDCHPS) will welcome historical author and photographer Jackson Knight on Tuesday, Aug. 6. Knight is the author of "Churches of the Black Belt," a series that includes Dallas, Wilcox, and Monroe counties and he is working on publishing books for Lowndes and Perry counties. We were impressed with the fireworks shows done in all three cities, filling up the night skies. Selma and Valley Grande’s shows were done the night before Independence Day. Orrville’s fireworks always fall on July 4. We came away pleased with the fireworks.
