That's why Thursday's joint practice that involved the Cowboys hosting the Los Angeles Rams was so critical: it was the first and last action against another team that many of Dallas' starters will face this offseason before kicking off the 2024 NFL season at the Cleveland Browns in a month. The preseason has finally arrived and with it, Dallas Cowboys fans can finally move on from a tumultuous offseason. The Cowboys started off on defense in LA, but they stymied the Rams once they got into scoring position and held them to three points.
Cooper Rush got the start at quarterback with many starters sitting out the exhibition game, par for the course for Mike McCarthy’s guys. It didn’t take long for Rush to declare his competency, either. After back-to-back Rico Dowdle rushes gave an immediate new set of downs, Rush went to work and found second-year receiver Jalen Brooks on a deep throw.

Brooks is competing to be WR3 behind CeeDee Lamb (when he reports) and Brandin Cooks and has been electric thus far in training camp. Getting big plays in actual action will go a long way towards those goals.

In the last 3 minutes, though, Bennett led the Los Angeles Rams on a game-winning drive that might have brought back memories of him leading the University of Georgia to two consecutive national titles. Bennett rebounded from a four-interception afternoon and threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Miller Forristall with 4 seconds remaining as the Rams rallied for a 13-12 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in the preseason opener for both teams. “That was probably the weirdest game that I’ve been a part of,” said Bennett, who was 24 of 38 for 224 yards. “But I told myself today we’re gonna roll with the punches. My goal was to not make any mental errors. It was basically to run the offense correctly.

Prescott (ankle) said Sunday that he expects to be back out on the practice field at the Cowboys' next session Tuesday, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. Prescott was unavailable for the team's 13-12 loss to the Rams in their preseason opener Sunday as a result of ankle soreness. It's unclear whether the quarterback would've played in the contest anyway, but it's a positive turn of events that he'll be able to return to practice right away.
