Supercomputer predicts Boston Celtics vs Dallas Mavericks NBA Finals winner

The Boston Celtics will defeat the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals, according to a supercomputer prediction.

Game 1 of the finals on Thursday sees the dominant Celtics team, who won the Eastern Conference and lost just twice in the play-offs, take on the Mavericks that remade themselves mid-season to become title contenders after finishing fifth in the Western Conference before demolishing the Timberwolves to book their finals place.

With the Celtics looking to make history and land a record 18th Championship, and their first since 2008, their home court advantage in four of the seven scheduled games is just one of the criteria that SportsHandles ’ supercomputer has taken into consideration.

Using a combination of current season form, playoff performance, head-to-head records, individual player stats in the regular season and playoffs, along with the schedule and home advantage. The computer predicts the Celtics to make history in six games following a simulation that was run over 100,000 times.

Game 1 is predicted to see the Celtics win 112-104 before game 2 sees a similar winning margin of 115-107 for Joe Mazzulla’s team. However, the Mavericks hit back with home advantage with a 105-102 and a 108-106 win in games 3 and 4 respectively.

But the Celtics go back ahead with a 116-109 victory back at TD Garden before they wrap up the finals in Dallas in game 6 with a 110-106 win. Seeing the Championship return to Boston for a record 18th time with a 4-2 final result to end 16 years without the NBA crown.

Jayson Tatum is also predicted to be the Finals MVP given his crucial role as Boston’s playmaker and main scorer – he’s also averaged 35.5 points per game in both of Celtic’s wins against the Mavericks this season. The Celtics are favorites to win with most bookmakers and the forward’s performances in the focal point of the Celtics offense will be pivotal if they’re to triumph.

A spokesperson from SportHandle commented on the simulation: “Our supercomputer crunched the numbers, and it’s predicting Celtics in 6. Celtics certainly have a stronger roster and are the overall favorite according to the betting markets.

"But the true wildcard in this series is (Luka) Doncic – his ability to control the game was shown in the first quarter of game five against the Timberwolves. However, Dallas’ record against Boston this season is not too favorable, losing both games against the Celtics. With Irving facing his former team, this will be a truly exciting Finals.”
