According to sources close to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Klay Thompson, who is currently a free agent, is set to sign a three-year contract worth $50 million with the Dallas Mavericks.

As part of a complex multi-team sign-and-trade deal, Klay Thompson’s transfer to the Dallas Mavericks will involve Mavericks guard Josh Green being traded to the Charlotte Hornets. Thompson is widely respected as one of the most exceptional shooters in the history of the NBA. Over the past decade, he has teamed up with Stephen Curry to create what many consider to be the most formidable shooting backcourt in the sport’s history during their time with the Golden State Warriors.

As we previously reported, fans began to speculate that Klay Thompson would not return to the Warriors after social media users noticed that Thompson deleted all of his Warrior photos from his Instagram and unfollowed the team’s Instagram account.

A five-time All-Star, Thompson has been a pivotal figure in all four NBA championship victories for the Golden State Warriors over the last decade. Throughout the Warriors’ dominant reign, he has delivered numerous legendary performances in the postseason.

Before entering free agency, Thompson held the distinction of being the second-longest serving player with his current team, having been with the Warriors since 2011, second only to Curry.

Last season, Thompson showcased his scoring prowess by averaging 17.9 points and maintaining a 38.7% success rate from beyond the arc on nine attempts per game. Despite transitioning to a bench role for 14 games, a departure from his usual starting position, he managed to excel and even saw improvements in his performance metrics.

Following a challenging period of recovering from significant injuries, including a torn ACL and Achilles tendon, Thompson demonstrated resilience and consistency in his gameplay over the past three seasons, culminating in an impressive appearance in 77 games last year. Renowned for his sharpshooting abilities, he notably sank 219 catch-and-shoot 3-pointers in the previous season, ranking second in the league for this statistic.
