The Golden State Warriors looked like fools to NBA fans on Monday after insiders revealed their underwhelming return in a sign-and-trade that sent guard Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks.

Per Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes , Dallas is sending two future second-round picks—the worst between the Nuggets' and 76ers' in 2025 and their own in 2031—to complete the deal.

Earlier in the day, the Mavericks agreed to a three-year, $50-million contract with the four-time NBA champion.

While receiving a pair of second-round picks is technically better than Thompson leaving for nothing, it's still a paltry return for a player who was instrumental to the franchise's dynasty and is still a valuable three-point threat.

    Fans were in tears online.

"Klay getting only second round picks," laughed one.

"They traded Klay for a teenager lmaoo," joked another.

"The 2031 kills me. Doesn’t seem right," wrote one commenter.

    "A SIXTH GRADER," another cried.

Thompson averaged 17.9 points on 43.2 percent shooting, including 38.7 percent from deep, in 2023-24.

Golden State missed the playoffs for the third time in five seasons after losing to the Kings in the play-in tournament.

On Monday, the Warriors agreed to terms on a one-year, $12.8-million contract with former Sixers guard De'Anthony Melton.

He appeared in 38 games this past season and averaged 11.1 points on 38.6 percent shooting.
