Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott just played a full 17-game campaign, but is his status suddenly in question heading into 2024?

Although nothing is confirmed, that is the rumor.

During an appearance on The Ross Tucker Even Money Podcast, professional sports bettor Steve Fezzik says that many people are now betting against the Cowboys due to rumblings that the Pro Bowl signal-caller has recently had an MRI.

Again, this seems like hearsay at this point.

We haven’t heard anything from the Cowboys’ beat reporters saying that Prescott is dealing with an injury.

Of course, Dallas could be doing its best to hide it, although it seems hard to imagine that the Cowboys would be able to keep this a secret.

Plus, if Fezzik and sports bettors know this, wouldn’t it have been leaked by somebody?

To Fezzik’s credit, he says it’s “unconfirmed,” but he notes that Dallas’ over-under win total has dipped and that people are beginning to take the under.

The last thing the Cowboys need is more Dak Prescott drama

The Cowboys are already locked in a contract standoff with Prescott, so the last thing they need is for the quarterback to be injured with a critical season on tap.

Prescott is preparing to enter the final year of his deal and is said to be seeking an extension worth in the neighborhood of $60 million annually, which would make him the highest-paid player in NFL history.

Right now, that title belongs to Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence, both of whom signed five-year, $275 million pacts with their respective teams and are earning $55 million per year. Lawrence just inked his new deal last month.

There has been spirited debate over whether or not Prescott is worth that money, but with the way the quarterback market is trending, it may not matter.

In the NFL, the highest-paid player at a specific position is typically the next one, especially when it comes to signal-callers. So even if Prescott may not be a better player than Burrow, he may very well end up securing a bigger contract when it’s all said and done.

We’ll see if the Cowboys are able to come to terms on a new deal with Prescott in the coming weeks (or months), but if—and that’s a big if —Prescott is truly battling an injury, and it really is serious enough to impact Dallas’ 2024 campaign, the Cowboys may absolutely use that as leverage against Dak Prescott at the negotiating table.
