The NBA reached an unexpected late July Saturday night milestone with the completion of a massive trade.

The deal that sent Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks and Buddy Hield and Kyle Anderson to the Golden State Warriors is officially complete, and there are now a record six teams involved in the transaction.

Oh yes, for the first time in NBA history, there has been a six-team trade.

The Mavericks, Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, Denver Nuggets, Charlotte Hornets and Philadelphia 76ers were all involved in the same deal, one that also involved two other players a handful of draft picks and cash.

Dallas broke down all the parts of this multi-part trade:

    • The Mavericks received Thompson and a 2025 second-round pick
    • The Timberwolves received a 2031 second-round pick swap, a 2025 second-round pick and cash
    • The Warriors received Anderson and Hield
    • The Nuggets received cash
    • The Hornets received Josh Green, Reggie Jackson, a 2029 second-round pick and a 2030 second-round pick
    • The 76ers received a 2031 second-round pick

And a partridge in a pear tree!

What an absolutely fascinating moment in the NBA, as so many moving parts all fell together in succession of each other to land some major players some new teams and some very far, far away draft picks some new homes.

Next time, we’re going to need a bigger trade announcement.
