Dallas looking to extend planning for high-speed rail as deadline approaches

DALLAS (1080 KRLD)- Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington are facing a deadline to make plans for high-speed rail, but Dallas wants to take a closer look at the process.

The North Central Texas Council of Governments says the new proposed high-speed rail line could get someone from Dallas to a stop in Arlington and then to Fort Worth in half an hour. Michael Morris says the ability to travel among all three convention centers quickly without a car would drive more economic growth.

This favored plan would build an elevated rail between the new convention center in Dallas and Reunion arena. Dallas City Councilman Adam Bazaldua says this means they would want to take a closer look at whether that would create a barrier between neighborhoods.

Morris says a delay now could cost them federal money, so he'll have to check with the Federal Railroad Administration to see if they can get an extension to work out any and all details.
