Watch George Strait Prove He’s the “One and Only King of Country” With a Sheryl Crow Duet at Dallas Cowboys Stadium

Although some singers are known for taking on a persona that fits their music, there was only one style for George Strait. While gaining massive success throughout his time in country music, there was no act when it came to Strait. Embracing the lifestyle of a cowboy, the singer spent decades touring the country, entertaining fans from all over the world. Looking past his accolades, Strait sold over 120 million albums worldwide. And while he continues his career with the upcoming release of his new album, Cowboys and Dreamers, the country star once took the stage with Sheryl Crow.

Given that Strait entered music back in the 1970s, the country singer collaborated with several icons over the years. And one of those performers was another country great Crow. With both singers holding amazing talent behind their voices, it was nothing short of spectacular when they took the stage at AT&T Stadium—home of the Dallas Cowboys—to perform the hit song “When Did You Stop Loving Me.”

Gaining over 22 million views, fans gushed over the performance and duet by Strait and Crow. Comments included, “George is a true entertainer! He doesn’t need all the smoke and lights and jumping around on the stage. Just give him Wranglers, a Cowboy Hat and a guitar and you’ve got a SHOW!.” Another person added, “Remember when this first came on the radio and I loved it and still do. There will never be anyone like George Strait, only one King of Country Music. He’s absolutely the Best.”

George Strait Once Told To “Take The Hat Off”

With a long history in country music, Strait had more than enough stories about his time on the road and dealing with record labels. He once recalled how MCA Records wanted him to change his look. “I wanna tell you a funny story. When I first signed with MCA Records in 1981, you know, all the people were goin’, ‘Take the hat off.’” While laughing, he added, “Now can you imagine if I would have done that? I mean, really.”

That wasn’t the only time producers looked to change Strait as he continued, “And then I had a producer early on and he was trying to get me to change my name to Cain Cooper. I would have been one of the Cooper’s. Me and ole Roy would’ve been brothers… we are brothers. But anyway, my dad was so glad I didn’t do that.”

Always standing his ground, it appears Strait knew what was best as he eventually became a legend himself.
