    Rangers fan favorite Hurtado BBQ to open new location in Dallas. Here’s where it’ll be

    Hurtado Barbecue, a Central Texas-style craft barbecue restaurant that has drawn a devoted following among Texas Rangers fans in Arlington, will open a downtown Dallas location, owner Brandon Hurtado said.

    Hurtado, popular for both traditional barbecue brisket and ribs and also for birria tacos and “Mexi-cue,” will open at 900 S. Harwood St., an anchor restaurant space on the corner of the Dallas Farmers Market.

    The restaurant is a half-mile east of Dallas City Hall and the city’s Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. It was formerly a taqueria and bar, The Reserve, and a farm-to-table restaurant, Mudhen Meat & Greens.

    “It’s perfect for us,” Hurtado said.

    “There’s already a big cow out front. It looks like a barbecue restaurant.”

    It’s Hurtado’s third central-city location, joining the original in Arlington at 205 E. Front St. and a Fort Worth location at 1116 Eighth Ave. Another location is in Mansfield at 226 N. Walnut Creek Drive.

    “What really sealed it is that when we went to look at the space, there was a guy at the bar in the Farmers Market who had on a Hurtado shirt,” he said.

    “I introduced myself and he said, ‘Hey — we really need you to open one in Dallas.’ ”

    Hurtado started in 2018 with pop-ups serving brisket tacos, then opened his downtown Arlington restaurant in February 2020. It was the same day that Goldee’s Barbecue, ranked No. 1 in the state by Texas Monthly, opened near Kennedale.
