WHAT A WAY TO KICK OFF YOUR WEEK. Charley Crockett does not miss, proving once again he is one of the best in the business. Last week, hardly three months after the release of his previous studio album , $10 Cowboy, Crockett took to social platforms to share that he was continuing the story of $10 Cowboy,
announcing chapter 2, Visions of Dallas, released via Son of Davy/Thirty Tigers. “We recorded the songs during the same sessions as $10 Cowboy down at Arlyn Studios in Austin. Could have released a double record. But then Taylor Grace wrote ‘Visions of Dallas’ in a hotel room overlooking that city. She thought about my relationship to Dallas and the great state of Texas in general, and suggested we do a second album where all the songs tie back to Dallas and Texas. The result is Visions of Dallas. For a truly independent artist like myself, there are no rules anymore. Why release Visions of Dallas now? To indulge myself in artistic freedom. The days of 18-to-24-month release cycles have gone the way of the dinosaur. I’ll have my 14 th studio album out next week, and every single one has been released how and when I wanted them to. I see no reason to change now.”
Crockett announced the album with a quick turnaround to the release date, leading us today... the best way to cure the Monday blues. https://www.instagram.com/p/C9kKYEnxjeu/ Visions Of Dallas lives up to his name and embodies the free spirit of the Southern city. While Crockett hasn't spoken on what inspired this collection of songs, it feels as though he moves on from singing about the land he's seen while touring on $10 Cowboy and makes characters and feelings of the Lone Star state the focal point of this record. With two existing singles featured on the tracklist, listeners have ten new songs to blaze through, and no one is worth skipping. In the opening and title track, Crockett sings about dreaming of the city while in various states and hoping he can soon return home to Dallas. The opener perfectly sets the stage for the longing feelings the listener will find throughout the album to either return to a place or person that feels homey.
"No, I can't shake that city And all the good she's done for me Having visions of Dallas Late at night in Tennessee..." Throughout the rest of the tracklist, Crockett wrestles with his love-hate relationship with the city and its people. With tracks like "Trouble and Misery," "How Low Can You Go," or "20-20 Vision," his poetic songwriting spins a web of metaphors in the lyrics, accompanied by Crockett's traditional country sound intertwined with elements of blues. With this being Crockett's 15th studio album in 9 years, his ability to churn out stellar track after stellar track is beyond impressive, and $10 Cowboy Chapter II- Visions Of Dallas is no exception. No one in the game does it like Charley Crockett. Fire up some of our early favorites.
