Dallas Cowboys Urged To Reunite With Former All-Pro Defender

The Dallas Cowboys have had one of the NFL’s best defenses for the past several years, and that shouldn’t change heading into 2024.

The Cowboys are still led by edge rusher Micah Parsons defensively, and cornerback Trevon Diggs is returning from a torn ACL.

However, Dallas could still use some depth in its secondary.

That’s why Brian Martin of Blogging The Boys is urging the Cowboys to bring back cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who spent 2023 in Dallas.

Gilmore enjoyed a fine campaign last season, playing in every game and registering 68 tackles, a couple of interceptions, a forced fumble and 13 passes defended.

The 33-year-old surprisingly remains unsigned in free agency in spite of the fact that he is still clearly a productive player.

Is Gilmore the same All-Pro caliber defensive back he was during his prime? No, but it seems hard to imagine that he can’t be of some help to a contending team.

The University of South Carolina product has made five Pro Bowls while earning a pair of First-Team All-Pro selections throughout his NFL career. He also won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots back during the 2018-19 campaign.

The Cowboys are one of the most interesting teams to monitor

The Cowboys are entering training camp with a whole lot of questions.

Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb are getting set to enter the final years of their respective deals, and while Lamb is expected to land a lucrative extension from Dallas, there is some doubt as to whether or not Prescott will ink a new deal before the regular season starts.

Parsons also became eligible for a contract extension this offseason, although the Cowboys may play the long game with him considering he is under team control through 2025.

Dallas has logged three straight 12-win campaigns, although it does not have much postseason success to show for it, winning just one playoff game throughout that span.

Going back even further, the Cowboys have not advanced past the Divisional Round since January 1996.

Head coach Mike McCarthy is surely on the hottest of seats heading into 2024, and if Dallas fails to live up to expectations yet again, it will probably be his last year at the helm.

This Cowboys squad is certainly talented, so we’ll see if they can finally get over the hump and make it to the NFC Championship Game—or the Super Bowl.
