Below average temperatures stick around, but rain chances decrease

North Texas is entering the hottest time of the year on average, but temperatures won't be too bad until next week. Plus, there are still a few more chances of rain, in some areas, over the next four days.

Tuesday wasn't too bad as temperatures topped out at 87 degrees. That's 10 degrees below average for this time of the year. There were 0.02 inches of rain Tuesday morning, but the afternoon and early evening remained dry. If you're one of the lucky ones, you may see a pop-up shower storm on Wednesday, but most of you won't see a drop. Afternoon highs will top out near 90 degrees.

The trough of low pressure that's been dominating the eastern third of the state will slowly start to lift north late Thursday into Friday. It will be close enough to us on Thursday to give a few afternoon and evening showers and storms, especially to our south and east. Afternoon highs will top out near 90 degrees again.

A surface low will start drifting north from the upper Texas coast late Thursday into Friday. Right now, it looks like its track will take it along and east of Interstate 45. Residents that live in its path and to the east have the greatest chance for showers and storms on Friday. The farther west you get away from Dallas and McKinney, the less of a chance you'll see any rain. Areas east have the highest coverage. Afternoon highs will reach the mid to upper 80s due to more cloud cover.

There is still a slight chance of an afternoon or evening storm on Saturday with highs in the low 90s. After that, rain chances start to diminish with only a renegade shower storm possible during peaking on Sunday. Afternoon highs will once again be in the low 90s.

Typical late July and early August weather return next week as high pressure starts to build in from the north. This will increase our temperatures into the mid-90s on Monday, and upper 90s by Tuesday and Wednesday. We may be dealing with Heat Advisories by then. No rain is in the forecast next week.
