NFL futures: How CeeDee Lamb contract news is impacting Cowboys betting odds

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb (88).

Contract negotiations — or lack thereof — can really do a number on a team's odds ahead of the regular season.

The Dallas Cowboys are not immune to that trend. Once news broke that star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb could miss the start of training camp because of stalled contract talks, oddsmakers were quick to change their tune about how the Cowboys will fare in 2024.

America's Team was previously the co-favorite at DraftKings alongside the Philadelphia Eagles to win the NFC East at +130. Sports Illustrated pointed out this week amid news of Lamb not reporting for camp DK now lists Philly as the +100 favorite over Dallas at +150.

As Fox News 8 in North Carolina pointed out on Wednesday, DK hasn't drastically moved the needle on the over-under of Cowboys wins this season — yet. The expectations are already a bit low, however, as Dallas is favored at -135 odds to hit Under 10.5 wins this season, with the Over priced at +105.

The Cowboys won their division last year with a 12-5 record, so the contract kerfuffle with Lamb is the likely culprit for this shift at sportsbooks.

Lamb isn't the only player in Dallas in need of a contract extension. Starting quarterback Dak Prescott is set to become a free agent next spring, and contract talks have been at a standstill leading up to the start of camp.

Fans and avid bettors should keep an eye on the Cowboys' odds as camp gets underway and the regular season comes into focus. If contract talks with Lamb — and with Prescott, for that matter — continue to stall, Dallas could fall further out of favor with oddsmakers before Week 1.
