Scattered showers and storms will develop during peak heating hours through Saturday, taper off on Sunday, and then North Texas weather returns to a typical late July and early August pattern next week.

Temperatures on Thursday morning started below average and as the day wears on, cumulus clouds will start to billow up as scattered showers and storms will sneak in from the south. The greatest coverage will remain east and south of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Afternoon highs will kiss the 90-degree mark. Any showers and storms that do form will dissipate after sunset.

Rinse and repeat this forecast for Friday and Saturday with afternoon highs in the upper 80s.

By Sunday, the greatest chance for showers and storms will shift into east Texas, with only a few renegades forming during peak heating across North Texas. Afternoon highs will be near 90 degrees.

As far as the temperatures go, North Texas has lucked out this week, but it's a different story next week. A strong range of high pressure will build into the central plains states this weekend and start to nose its way into North Texas next week. Temperatures will slowly moderate through next Friday. Mid 90s on Monday, upper 90s on Tuesday, and near 100 degrees by Wednesday. Temperatures will continue to climb through the end of next week.
