When you're talking about mid-century modern homes, the house itself is only one part of the equation. One of the biggest characteristics of mid-century modern design is the integration of nature into the home through the use of organic materials, large windows, and structures designed to complement the landscape around them. The best examples of MCM architecture are paired with beautiful exteriors to match their elegant interiors.

This exceptional 1960 home in Dallas, Texas, exemplifies the mid-century modern movement's melding of futuristic design and gorgeous organic landscapes. Though the home itself is beautiful, the lavish "private oasis" out back is what really makes this property special!

According to Dallas realtor @bridgetteharrington , this home was an original Ju-Nel construction, making it a highly sought-after piece of real estate in the Dallas area. To give a little context, Ju-Nel Homes was a Dallas-based architectural firm founded by Lyle Bishop Rowley and Jack Kyle Wilson in 1959. According to Ju-Nel website, Rowley and Wilson cut their teeth working for modernist architect Howard Meyer , who himself was heavily influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright. FLW's influence, particularly his focus on organically integrating homes into the natural landscapes around them, can be seen in Ju-Nel homes like this one.

Despite undergoing plenty of updates since 1960, both structurally and stylistically, this Ju-Nel home still has all the recognizable characteristics of mid-century modern design: sloping ceilings, exposed beams, large windows, an open floor plan, etc. Even though it was one of Ju-Nel's first constructions, it's a perfect example of MCM architecture at its best. But what really makes this home a true gem is not its inside, but its outside.

    A Private Urban Oasis

According to the Ju-Nel website, the firm was known for building homes on irregular lots , preferring to work their designs into the landscape as-is as much as possible with minimal alterations. Rowley and Wilson prioritized creating multiple outdoor entertainment spaces, and they had a rule about not cutting down any vegetation above 4" tall, building around it instead. Those principles can be seen in the expressive, free-wheeling design of this home's lush urban oasis.

Bridgette exited through the living room to the backyard's sizable tree-shaded deck, which itself extends down to an aggregate concrete patio surrounding a funky, irregularly-shaped pool and hot tub . Just past the pool, almost hidden behind a line of mature vegetation, is an unattached guest suite, being used here as a home office. Winding stone garden paths weave through bamboo forests to the side yard, a lush green lawn strung with overhead string lights and hemmed by raised wooden landscaping beds with sides the perfect width and height for sitting on. This would be an incredible place to throw some spectacular garden parties!

While a lot of focus was put into preserving the property's original landscaping and vegetation, the backyard doesn't feel untamed. Despite its irregular design, the landscaping was meticulously thought out, and its natural integration into the preexisting landscape only serves to enhance the feeling of being in a serene, private urban oasis. It's just magical!

This four-bed, three-bath home is located at 9021 Guildhall Drive in Dallas, Texas , and it's listed on Zillow for $1,049,000. It currently shows a pending sale as of 7/23, just 12 days after it was listed. Bridgette called it when she said this place would sell very quickly!
