Dallas officers shoot armed suspect in stolen vehicle after 2 police vehicles rammed 02:19

DALLAS Officers shot a suspect inside a stolen vehicle on Thursday after its driver stepped on the gas and rammed two police vehicles.

Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said the shooting occurred after undercover officers tracked the vehicle to a northeast Dallas apartment complex off Golf Lakes Trail.

"At one point, officers fired their weapons at an armed suspect," said Garcia, noting four suspects were inside the vehicle.

One of the suspects was struck and had to be taken to a local hospital, where he is expected to survive, police said.

Two other suspects were taken into custody, including one who was injured and transported to a local hospital. That suspect remains in stable condition.

Police are actively seeking a fourth suspect who fled the scene.

"It's definitely a scary situation," said Michelle Gonzalez, who heard a crash and hurried outside her apartment at about 1 p.m.

"There were like four or five cops running out this way, shooting out," Gonzalez said.

Three weapons were recovered at the location, authorities reported.

One of the arrested suspects, who has not been immediately identified, was wanted on an active Dallas murder warrant.

"I saw them shooting," Gonzalez said. "I have my two kids at home and so that shook me."

Gonzalez said she headed back to her apartment to ensure her children were not hurt and weren't "around the windows or anything."

"It was like something out of a movie really," said Ishmael Kendrex, who lives in the complex. "I wasn't expecting to wake up this afternoon and see all the cops looking like that."

Garcia said more information will be released soon.

"It was definitely one experience that I never want to see again," Gonzalez said.
