The Dallas Cowboys made a new addition to the roster on Sunday as they wrapped up the first week of training camp in Oxnard, California. The team claimed former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Kemon Hall off of waivers, according to multiple reports.

Hall was with the 49ers on a futures/reserve deal until the team released him on July 27. He originally signed with the team in November, but didn’t see action in a regular-season game. He played last for the LA Chargers in 2022, recording one tackle in two games played. The 27-year-old cornerback had seven tackles and a fumble recovery in 16 games played for the Chargers in 2021, however.

The 2024 season marks Hall’s sixth season removed from his playing days at North Texas. He was an undrafted free agent coming out of the Mean Green program in 2019. He briefly made the Cowboys roster in December of 2020 before signing a futures/reserve contract after the season. He didn’t stick, however, and was waived the following May. His last deal with the Chargers was for one year, $980,000.

To make room for Hall on the roster, the team released former XFL star Gareon Conley . Per Todd Archer of ESPN , Conley, who signed with Dallas on June 18, informed the team he plans to retire.

Cowboys release Conley after Week 1 of training camp

Conley was one of two former first-round cornerbacks that the Cowboys worked out this summer. The former Ohio State star signed the new contract in the NFL after three seasons out of the league.

The Raiders originally drafted Conley with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft out of Ohio State. He had a good run with the Raiders before they traded him to the Houston Texans in 2019. He went on injured reserve, however, before moving to the UFL. This year for the DC Defenders, he notched two interceptions.

Conley suited up in 23 games for the Raiders before being dealt to the Houston Texans in 2019. He last suited up in an NFL game that season, spending the entirety of the 2020 campaign on injured reserve. In 31 games (26 starts), Conley tallied 94 tackles (65 solo), four interceptions and 29 passes defended.

Conley was no guarantee to make the Cowboys’ roster out of camp at a position, which has some question marks already. Dallas placed Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs on the PUP list Thursday as he returns from his torn ACL. The 25-year-old suffered the injury on Sept. 21 last year during practice. Diggs played in just two games in 2023 and registered four tackles with one interception.
