Heat Advisory in effect with triple-digit heat index for North Texas

Triple-digit temperatures return to North Texas as August, the hottest month of the year approaches. By the end of July, Dallas-Fort Worth feels an average of nine triple-digit days, and so far this summer, there have been eight.

More heat advisories will be in effect Tuesday and most likely through the end of the week. Temperatures will flirt with the century mark after the morning low clouds burn off. A strong ridge of high pressure now over the central plains states will sag farther south into Friday. That most likely will be the hottest day of the week with readings between 101 and 104 degrees. Heat index values throughout the week will range between 105 and 109. To make matters worse, Saharan and dust makes its return to North Texas late into the week and end of the weekend.

Some of the extended models are indicating this ridge of high pressure that will be anchored over southern Oklahoma on Friday will slide to the west this weekend. This may allow a weak cold front to sag into North Texas and go stationery. If this occurs, we'll start to see some scattered showers and storms try to sneak out of Oklahoma late Friday night into Saturday morning and then redevelop during peak heating hours Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Chances are slim, but not out of the question. Due to more cloud cover this weekend, high temperatures may struggle to hit 100 degrees.

Rain chances will go away by early next week with highs getting close to 100 degrees again.

There are also subtle indications that the tropics may start to get active in the Caribbean this weekend. If something does form, it will continue to track northwest into next week.
