“You have to go with the Yankees because they’re constantly knocking on the door every day,” he explained.
Smith added that despite their summer struggles, he couldn’t see past the likes of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto regarding the Yankees’ potential.
However, Smith also explained that another reason he opted for the Yankees was that he still felt the Knicks weren’t yet the best team in the NBA .
“My issue is, I want to say the Knicks. But I know Bostons (Celtics) better, and I think the acquisition of Paul George with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey in Philly (76ers) is formidable,” he said.
“And that’s only taking into account the East, you’ve got to look at the Western Conference and the firepower that’s out west.”
Smith added that he felt the Knicks were on the “upswing” but still needed the final piece of the puzzle.
“They need to get a bonified number one scoring option,” he said.

They also re-signed All-Defensive Second-Teamer OG Anunoby to a huge new five-year deal worth $212.5 million.
While All-Star Jalen Brunson also put pen to paper on an extension worth $156.5 million over four years.
