QB Trey Lance just threw an absolute dime to rising WR at Cowboys training camp

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Trey Lance isn't off to the hottest start at training camp, with some vision issues he dealt with at San Francisco still showing up in practice and resulting in turnovers.

But on Friday, he threw a dime to potential starting wide receiver Jalen Tolbert. The over-the-shoulder pass that landed outside the numbers was perfectly positioned for Tollbert to make the easy grab while the defensive back had no shot at making a play. Nick Harris from DallasCowboys.com had a perfect shot of the play:

Lance's arm talent is special, as shown in the clip below. That hasn't been in question since he arrived to Dallas and if he keeps making plays like this, his shot at dethroning Cooper Rush as Dak Prescott's direct backup will only get better.

However, making impressive throws like this one or jolting from the pocket at blazing speed isn't all that he needs. With Lance, it will come down to how his vision progresses with a full training camp under his belt.

"Is he making mistakes?," Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer told reporters after Lance threw a couple of interceptions on team drills a day before. "Of course he is. But I see improvement every day."

Schottenheimer praised Lance's coachability as he continues to get something he barely has gotten in his NFL career: Reps.

"He just wants (Cowboys QB coach Scott Tolzien) to coach him on every play, Mike (McCarthy) to coach him on every play, me to coach him on every play," Schottenheimer added. "The other thing I love about him is how he leans on Dak and (Cooper Rush)... I would say he's had more good days than bad days."

Lance is expected to take on most of the preseason snaps, which will be a great opportunity for him to prove he can be what the Cowboys want him to be.
