Dallas Mavericks role players Dwight Powell and Dante Exum got off to a hot start with their respective national teams when the 2024 Paris Olympics began. However, both players saw their hopes for a medal end on Tuesday in the quarterfinals.

Exum and Australia fell to Nikola Jokic and Serbia in a thrilling overtime. During the 95-90 loss, Exum put up 12 points, five assists, two rebounds, and one block off the bench.

Powell and Canada took on Victor Wembanyama and the host team of the tournament in France. Powell put up four points, nine rebounds, three assists, and one steal while also holding Wembanyama to seven points on 2-10 shooting and 0-6 from deep when guarding him one-on-one. Despite that production, Canada ultimately lost to France 82-73.

Although Powell's days of being a starting NBA center are likely over, with the Mavs now having Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford at their exposal, he proved throughout this Olympics run that he can still be a useful player when his name is called on. Even if he doesn't play, though, Powell still brings a lot of value to the Mavs' locker room and is a mature leader for younger players to learn from.

The Paris Olympics semifinals are now set, with LeBron James and Team USA taking on Jokic and Serbia at 2 p.m. CT on Thursday. That game will be live on NBC or Peacock. Before that match, France will take on Germany at 10:30 a.m. CT, and that game can be viewed on USA or Peacock.
