A Dallastown Area School District teacher and triathlete was killed Saturday morning when the bike he was riding collided with a sport utility vehicle in Hellam Township, municipal police Chief Doug Pollock said.

Joseph Klinedinst, 48, of the Glen Rock area was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the York County Coroner's Office. The cause and manner of death are pending.

The crash occurred around 10:15 a.m. Saturday, July 27 at the intersection of Mount Pisgah and Ducktown roads.

Klinedinst was riding westbound on Mount Pisgah Road when a driver pulled out from Ducktown Road, according to police and the coroner's office. The bicycle impacted the driver side door of the small SUV that was heading east.

    Klinedinst was wearing a helmet.

A witness told police the driver stopped at the stop sign and then started to pull out when the crash occurred, Pollock said.

Klinedinst was training for a competition in Hawaii, Pollock said.

Hellam Township Police and state police are investigating the incident.

Joseph Klinedinst, a dedicated teacher, 'touched the lives of countless students'

Dallastown Supt. Joshua Doll sent a message to the community on Saturday evening.

    Here is the message:

    Dear Dallastown Community,

It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you of the passing of a beloved member of our school community, Mr. Joseph Klinedinst. He was not only a dedicated teacher at the Dallastown Area High School, but also a cherished colleague and friend to many of us.

Mr. Klinedinst has been an integral part of DASD, touching the lives of countless students with his passion for teaching and commitment to their success. His enthusiasm for technology education and support for his students will be deeply missed.

As we navigate this difficult time, I want to emphasize the importance of coming together as a community to support one another. Grieving the loss of someone dear to us is never easy, and it is essential that we lean on each other for strength and comfort.  We will be providing resources for students and staff who may need support during this time. Our school counselors will be available tomorrow, Monday, July 29th from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM in the HS Counseling Office for anyone needing additional support.

Please join me in keeping The Klinedinst Family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

    With heartfelt sympathy,

    Joshua A. Doll

    Superintendent
